Questions on the outline of the historical background to CST, i.e. 2.1:

        • To what extent were you already familiar with what is in that outline?
        • From other knowledge of modern history you have, how would you add to that outline in ways that have some relevance to CST?
        • To what extent have you achieved the first ‘learning outcome for Unit 2 (given in 2.1.1):

By the end of this unit, you will be able

                • to outline the meanings of ‘industrial capitalism’ and ‘socialism’ and, in relation to them, the position articulated by Pope Leo XIII in Rerum Novarum in 1891.

Questions on principles of CST you have studied so far (2.2.1-2.2.5; see 2.2 contents):

        • Do you find you agree with the principle of ‘the priority of labour over capital’?
        • In relation to workplaces you know about, to what extent (a) is that principle respected, or (b) does it present a challenge?

        • Discuss what recognition of human dignity should mean for the following different contexts of human work:

– private companies

– public services

– charitable work

–
