Back to 3.3.7

We are at a good point in Unit 3 to review what has come up so far. Even though we are more than half way through the screens, there is more reading set in the rest of the unit than up to now. So this is about the half-way point.
How you can make best use of the questions that follow – e.g. whether face-to-face or in an online forum – will depend on where you are studying the module.
–
1. Evidence of ecological crisis
The first two discussion question are revised from the ‘reflections’ in 3.2.7 and 3.2.6:
(a) In the story of growing awareness of ecological crisis that part 3.2 outlined, where do you fit in? Do you have direct experience of the impact of any of the ecological problems mentioned?
–
(b) Having looked at some main environmental problems, what is your sense of the strength of the evidence?
–
–
2. Humans as “in the image of God”
(a) From what you have learned about the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, would you say that the view that God is not simply ‘one’ but is ‘three-in-one’, triune, makes it easier or more difficult actually to believe in God?
In discussing this, it might be helpful to bring in what you learned from Unit 1 (1.2.1, 2.2.2) about what the Christian gospel is.
–
(b) Before studying this module, to what extent were you aware of the biblical idea that humans are made “in the image of God”?
If you were, what did you understand by it?
–
(c) In the last few screens, we have seen that there are “two great strands” in what it means that humans are made in the image of God, which can be labelled stewardship and communion.1.
To what extent does each of these two prompt a change in how you see human persons, including yourself?
–
(d) From your study of Lynn White Jr’s argument, to what extent are you sympathetic to it?
