Hello all. I am Rory. I took the legal diploma 1994 / 95. I was the best footballer that ever played for Plater College. Oh yes, and an arrogant loudmouth. I never realised what a rich experience Plater was until long after I left. With hindsight I would have made much more of it than I did but I bet there are many who would say the same. It would be great to hear from anyone who was at Plater for the Unforgettable ’94/95 academic epiphany! (No sneaking off to the “library”!)
Well the accolade for worst footballer ever could go to me. Would be the first thing I’ve ever won. Adam.
Hi Adam! Just saw your post.were you a member of the 94 / 95 squad?
More than that Rory….I was in the room next door to you…..
We were not much of a football team but the match reports said we were!
James! Just saw your post. (Only 30 months late!) I would give much to know what has become of you and what you did / are doing since Plater. I thought your match reports were fair and accurate and coincided almost identically with my own unbiased and knowledgeable opinion. I am a doddering old f*rt now but you are still a relatively young man. What on Earth are you getting up to these days?
I’m Kevin Roche and I was a 1994/95 student at Plater College. At that time I was a candidate for the priesthood with the RC Diocese of Plymouth. Following on from Plater I took up the post of Pastoral Assistant in the parish of Eastbourne. Fourteen months later I decided that religion wasn’t for me and I walked away from it and have not returned.
I remain grateful to the church for the great education that it provided me with. School had been one of the things that I had failed at as a child.
After leaving the church I acquired work with Plymouth City Council as a Housing Officer. I remained in that post until 2010 when I retired.
I wasn’t in the Plater football squad, playing football has never been my subject.
This year (2019) I will have achieved 38 consecutive years of of sobriety. When I attended my first AA meeting (25 – 05 – 81) a guy there said to me: “The life that you have been living doesn’t have to be the life that you continue to live when you leave here this evening”. He was absolutely right. That was the message that I had longed to hear.
I certainly remember the guys who are on this forum. I give them all my very best wishes
Does anyone know of Lascelles MCP, ERSON who was at the College in 1993-1995. I am doing some research to try establish more about him and his family roots and if anyone knew of him or about him, it would be good to be in touch with you. I am trying to locate his family. My email is debbiemclean@pitcairnmclean.com or 07841 593308 I think he settled in Edinburgh. If there is any assistance you can give in where one goes after Plater then that would be interesting to! Kind regards
Debbie McLean
Enjoyed a short while at Plater before we were informed it was about to close 😥
